Advantage of Power overt Ethernet
(PoE = Data + Power)
PoE supplies power to a networking device using the same LAN cable that transmits the data.
-
Time and Cost Saving
Time and Cost Saving
Power over Ethernet, one network cable can transmit data and supply power without needing to modify existing Ethernet infrastructure; PoE-enabled devices no longer require extra power supply - greatly reducing the deployment cost and time.
-
Reliability
Reliability
PoE power comes from a central and universally compatible source, rather than a collection of distributed wall adapters. It can also be backed-up by an uninterruptible power supply. It is also capable of controlling whether to disable or reset the connected devices.
PoE Applications
-
IP Cameras
IP Cameras
IP surveillance camera is now ubiquitous PoE support enables fast deployment and easy repositioning with only one LAN cable.
-
Access Points
Access Points
Office access points, installed on a wall or ceiling where AC outlets are unreachable, are commonly PoE compatible to allow flexible deployment and, with relocation site surveys, best Wi-Fi coverage for employees stay connected.
-
VoIP Phone
VoIP Phone
For the VoIP phones, there’s no need to support desktop phones with additional power supply as power is transmitted along with data through PoE technology.
-
Others
Others
Other IP-enabled devices such as RFID readers, access controls, thin clients, alarms or sensors, are commonly PoE compatible for easy and cost saving installation even when away from AC outlets.
PoE-Enabled Devices & Power Guide
Extend PoE Cabling Distance up to 200+ Meters
Standard PoE has Ethernet cable distance restrictions of 100 meters (328 feet) for data and power transmission, whether for IEEE 802.3af (PoE) or 802.3at (PoE+).
Edimax provides the solutions to overcome the PoE distance limitation with the following solutions:
1) Long Range PoE+ Switch Series: Simply clicks on the DIP switch to extend the range up to 200 meters.
2) Gigabit PoE+ Extender: Adds a PoE Extender to extend the range to 100 meters or more, to up to 300 meters.
PoE (802.3af) & PoE+ (802.3at)
The IEEE 802.3af (PoE) standard supports the delivery of power over Ethernet to up to 15.4W per port. The IEEE 802.3at (PoE+) standard supports up to 25.5W of power to the ports, allowing devices that require more than 15.4W to power on when connected to the PoE+ ports.
